平安から鎌倉時より伝統芸術などで使われており、室町時代には日本を代表する花として認知されている。不老長寿の願いが込められた菊の花は皇室の御紋章にも採用された。
“KIKU” which means chrysanthemum, used in art fields traditionally and started to use from Heian period (794-1185) or Kamakura period (1185-1333). In Muromachi period (1333-1573), it was already recognized as representative flower of Japan. This flower whishes perennial youth and long life, adopts as imperial crest.
