This hexagonal shaped geometry pattern was used for decolation of Buddha statues from Heian period (794-1185). It came to be called “asa no ha (hemp leaf)” pattern because it resembles a hemp leaf. It wihses children’s healthy growth because hemp leaves grow very fast and straight. It also means amulet, so this pattern has been familiar for the clothes for newborn baby.
